Spanish Agency of Data Protection (AEPD) fines France Telecom 120,000 euros

[23/07/2007] The Spanish Agency of Data Protection, in instance of the Association of Consumers of Navarra “Irache,” has sanctioned the business France Telecom Spain 120,202 euros for including in a file of bad debts a person that did not pay invoices on a service that he or she had not hired.

This person, explained Irache in a commentary, received the visit of a commercial of UNI2, that through verbal explinations solicited that more information be provided, but he or she did sign any document or authorized the treatment of his or her personal data.

A few days ago, two bills arrived of “Indirect Access” and “Flat Teriff my city” for imports of 8,28 and 13,92 euros, respectively, that returned for not conforming con themselves.

Irache also was in contact with the telephone company, and they affirmed they were going to annul the invoices, athough to this person arrived in little time a letter in which they wanted him or her to pay the cited amounts and then included him or her the file of bad debts ASNEF.

The consumers association criticized the abusive practices in the Spanish Agency of Data Protection that, through realizing the pertinent investigations, has fined France Telecom Spain S.A. 120,202.41 euros.

With this, Irache indicated, there are now four sanctions placed on this company, for a total of 306,506.04 euros.

Irache recommended that all of the consumers don’t give their personal data to businessmen that offer them services “unless they have them very clearly controlled.”
